about silverlakeview, Silver Lake, New York

First of all, Welcome to the site. SilverLakeView.com is owned and maintained by SilverLakeView Enterprises.
The live web cams are mounted on the house which was originally built by Wilbur Hoag on the Silver Lake Institute in the late 1800's. The house was originally built as a summer cottage by Hoag for himself and his wife, but she passed away about a year after the cottage was built and he sold it to Reverend John Stoody. The Hoag Memorial Art Gallery is just across the street from the house and Stoody Hall is just up the road. The house is also on the National Historic Register.
IMPORTANT: Live streaming cam views are not to be placed on any other site without expressed and written consent of SilverLakeView Enterprises. These cam views are an important draw and source of advertising revenue and we will not compromise our advertisers paid support. Violations will be addressed, up to and including legal action if required. We appreciate your understanding on this issue.
SilverLakeView Enterprises also created and currently maintains the Silver Lake Association's site, which was put together in the fall of 2006. You can visit that site at www.silverlakeassociation.org. Another site project is www.myfathersworld.com. Feel free to check out these sites if so inclined.
As far as other legal issues, there are a couple of things to mention about images and graphics on this site. All of the vintage/antique/old images that are posted here are not owned or copyright owned by SilverLakeView Enterprises or anyone affiliated with same. Someone else may or may not own copyrights to those images, but this is unknown. Most of them are anywhere from 50-100 years old. They are posted here in a publicly accessible format at no charge, and as such, SilverLakeView Enterprises does not directly profit by their inclusion. SilverLakeView.com is intended to be an informational and educational resource. If an image is here and the original copyright owner surfaces and asks to have an image removed, it will be removed. Proof of copyright will be a requirement to this request.
Digital contemporary images posted on the site are copyright protected. Unless otherwise noted, all digital images shot after year 2000 and posted on this site were captured by Gene Matthews. They may not be reproduced or copied without permission from Gene Matthews, and can never be sold or resold for profit through misrepresentation of ownership. They may be downloaded for your own personal use and nothing more. Please contact SilverLakeView Enterprises about any possible use of an image on the SilverLakeView.com web site. The SilverLakeView.com logo, which is at the top of this page and also on the homepage, consisting of a serpent riding a wave on a surfboard, is also copyright protected and owned by SilverLakeView Enterprises. The Serpent is original artwork created by Gene Matthews, expressly for this site, and as such, it is not available for use in any other venue without written permission from the creator.
SilverLakeView Enterprises may request info from you from time to time in the form of surveys or ideas for site improvement. Any personal info you provide through the SilverLakeView.com site is held confidential and will never be sold or provided to any third party. It may be used for our own mailing list, but nothing more. Any mailings will most likely be email, not postal mail.
The SilverLakeView.com discussion forum, chat room and guest book are provided as a courtesy to site visitors. Obscene and inappropriate postings will be removed. Porn is strictly forbidden. Sounding off on lake or local issues is perfectly fine, provided postings are not libelous or slanderous. Every effort will be made to remove any such postings and preserve the spirit of SilverLakeView.com, but SilverLakeView Enterprises will not be responsible or accountable for postings in violation of policy before becoming aware of their presence on the site and removing them. Opinions and ideas voiced in the Chat Room are not necessarily the opinions of SilverLakeView Enterprises or anyone affiliated with SilverLakeView Enterprises and should not be misconstrued as such. If you feel a posting has been made that is inappropriate, please email gene@silverlakeview.com.
SilverLakeView Enterprises welcomes and encourages Silver Lakers to submit their own photos, stories, articles, whatever they may have of interest to area residents, for inclusion on the site. There is no charge associated with anything on this site. You will always retain ownership of your works and materials. Material will be posted for as long as you wish and removed at your request.
The business philosophy of the SilverLakeView site has morphed a bit recently as we get into 2007. We have always accepted contributions from individuals who wanted to help fund the site, and will continue to do so. The newly launched "General Store" also now adds another dimension to site funding, through product sales as well as donation incentives. We also hope to partner with Silver Lake Business Owners to promote Silver Lake in a way like never before. The 'View is truly taking on a life of its own and becoming something really cool for the Silver Lake Community!
Now that the legal stuff is out of the way......
You'll find PDF formatted documents on the site that mirror some of the info in its original context. You'll need Acrobat Reader or another PDF software program to view these. Adobe's PDF download is available at www.adobe.com.
There is also Java enabled programming on the site, including for the web cams. Later versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer were not Java enabled due to a lawsuit brought by Java against Microsoft for infringement. To enable viewing of sites that utilize Java, you would need to go to www.java.com and download the Java software. It's free and easy and gives you the capability to view the portions of any web site written in Java code. If you don't have Java capability, you will see a blank window with a message telling you that you need to enable Java. IE 7.0 has just been released as of November, 2006 and I don't know what resolution if any was reached with regard to Java.
SilverLakeView.com is intended to be a news and informational resource on Silver Lake. We want to provide news of events and happenings on the lake, but we could use your help to do that effectively. We can't be everywhere, so if you know of something that will be happening, or an event taking place, drop an email and let us know the specifics. If you are sponsoring an event locally that lake residents should know about, drop us an email. Having a yard sale, renting a cottage, selling a cottage, whatever, get it posted on the classifieds section. This site is here for you, so take advantage of what it has to offer.
Gene can also be available to photograph special events for site inclusion if we know about them and someone requests us to do so. He is more than happy to do this, so just let us know.
That's all for now, so enjoy the site and visit often. Thanks for stopping by.
